Hire Information

Manual & Hire Agreement

We will send you printed copies of our Manual and Hire Agreement when your booking becomes definite. However, if you wish to, you can download them at any time using the links below:

  • Manual (PDF) - A detailed instruction manual describing setting-up, dismantling, equipment, maintenance and FAQs for the Escape to Safety exhibition.
  • Hire Agreement (PDF) - A copy of the formal contract between Global Link and the hirer of Escape to Safety.

Booking Procedure

To ensure that enquiries are dealt with smoothly and effectively, the following steps have been identified:

  1. After a hirer's familiarisation with the project, a provisional booking may be made, where we will note your details, check your desired dates are still available, agree a price and discuss your staffing requirements.
  2. To go ahead to a secured booking, you will need to ask us to send you a deposit-invoice and a Hirer Agreement, both of which need to be acted on by you. Your preferred dates are still not rigid, though, and may be altered at your request as long as no conflicts with other parties arise. You will also be put in contact with our education worker, who will advise on any which teaching resources would be appropriate, and who will arrange inset and on-site staffing.
  3. Once the deposit and signed Hirer Agreement are received by us, we will need details of the venue address, and drop-off/pickup times, usually a few weeks before delivery. It is possible that we may allow you to keep the exhibition extra time at no extra charge.
  4. A week or so before delivery, we will distribute full contact and trailer-movement details, so that last-minute changes can be effected without Global Link's input.
  5. After Escape to Safety's visit, we will send you a final invoice, and some form of evaluation.

Installation & Removal

A haulier appointed by Global Link will deliver the trailer, normally without our supervision. It may be necessary for you to be on site to facilitate correct siting. Similar arrangements may need to be made for removal. You may or may not be asked by us to receive a set of 'haulage' keys from the driver to complement the 'teaching' set we will send you.

Space Requirements

The trailer is 2.6m wide, 12.5m long and 4m high. PLEASE allow for this, plus an allowance for turning, in ascertaining the access and working position of Escape to Safety. We will need access to 230V mains electricity (NO generators) within 20m of the trailer.

Space Requirements

Insurance (Public Liability)

Whilst a member of Global Link staff is in attendance, Global Link's PL is active. At other times, the hirer will need to ensure that they are covered through their organisation in this regard.

Insurance (Theft)

Global Link's insurance and security arrangements require that if the trailer is stolen, the police must be informed within 24 hours of this coming to the hirer's attention.

Duration

The soundtrack lasts 15 minutes, but for a workshop setting the experience itself should ideally be set within introductory and debriefing components.

Participant Numbers

Inside a hour-long session, a class of thirty students can be introduced to the exhibition, be made familiar with some of the terminology and history of asylum seeking, then one by one sent through Escape to Safety while their classmates are occupied by filling out their 'Immigration papers' by interacting with our 8-panel display. Videos, quizzes, or brainstorming 'what would you take?' are other valuable activities.

Setup Staffing

Global Link strongly recommend that 2 people work together on the daily setup and strip down, the step assembly components have been designed to last, and are heavy!

Supervision Staffing

You must ensure that at least one of your representatives is present at all times. If the booking is a public booking, for example in a city square or at a festival, at least two representatives must be present. Global Link reserves the right not to open the exhibition if you fail to provide the appropriate number of representatives.

The following charts have been produced using information from filled-in 'passports'. The participants from Altrincham Girls Grammar School were asked to answer the questions after experiencing the exhibition and workshops. The data has not been selected by yeargroup, or aptitude, and therefore represents a 'lumped' response . Where necessary, DNAs (did not answer) or multiple answers are indicated.
