Slave Trade Artefacts
| Description | |||
|
Facsimiles of shackles and leg irons used in the Transatlantic Slave Trade, these are made in India and fairly traded. This is a stimulus to be used with caution, usually but not necessarily with a group who already have some knowledge about the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Before you let the group handle them, explain that they are copies, and have been made to help us understand what happened in the past, but that these have not been made or used to hurt anyone. Let the group pass them from person to person- they will feel how heavy they are and it is clear they would be painful and restrictive to wear, While group members are handling the items you may want to explain how they were used. |
