Getting Involved

The Radio for Change project worker, Ruth Davies, will help your group research and make a programme.

Together you’ll find out more about your topic and explore the wider aspects of it.

For example if your youth group thinks the bus service is rubbish…. you can find out what all those cars in traffic jams are doing to the planet!

Or if you are a pensioners’ group who feel your voices are not heard…… maybe you’d like to find out how elders are treated in other societies?

We can use books, newspapers, the internet to find out more…. or we could go and talk to people who know.

Planning and writing your programme is a big job, but again you will have the help of the project worker.

What kind of radio programme do you want to make
  • A quiz?
  • A documentary?
  • A diary?

Will you do ….

  • Interviews with the public?
  • Interviews with councillors or your MP?
  • Interviews with experts?

Do you want your listeners to…..
  • Laugh?
  • Learn something?
  • Listen to a new point of view?

The final stage is to record your programme!

You can usually do this wherever you normally meet, but you may want to go somewhere special. For example one of our groups recorded most of their programme outside at a tree planting event.

When all your material is recorded, it will be handed over to BBC Radio Lancashire for editing and broadcasting. And the story of your programme will be added to this website!

If you are a group who would like to be involved, but you’re not sure what to make a programme about don’t worry.

The project worker can run exploratory sessions with your group to find out what kinds of things you are interested in.

Usually one or two themes emerge and you can choose which you think would make the most interesting programme. Then we’ll look at the topic in more depth.
